Born and raised in New York, Herb "Poppy" Sklar attended the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He worked in Manhattan for major advertising agencies as an Art Director and Creative Director for ten years and then started his own agency in Westchester. Herb won over 50 awards in juried competitions for outstanding concepts and designs in print and television media. As an avid photographer, his black and white images have appeared in museums, galleries and national publications. At this point in time, his focus remains in oil paintings. His paintings have been shown in juried exhibits. Poppy is presently represented by WildChild Gallery in Pine Island for commission portraits, and the Presseller Gallery in Punta Gorda for prints, and is a member of the Portrait Society of America.
